As a kickoff to the Regional Outreach Series 2, PlanET held six regional forums the week of April 23-28, 2012. The meetings, which were held in each of the PlanET counties of Anderson, Blount, Knox, Loudon, and Union, were open to the public and focused on asking participants to describe what they would like East Tennessee to be like in the year 2040.
Forum 2 Common Themes and Differences
Across the six forums events, a number of ideas to make East Tennessee a good place for future generation were heard on multiple occasions. This document summarizes the most frequently mentioned areas of agreement and also highlights areas where differences were revealed.
Working in small groups, citizens were asked to imagine their region in 2040 and how it might be made better for future generations in the areas of economy and workforce, transportation, healthy communities, neighborhoods and the environment. Each group worked to select their top two ideas from each of the five focus areas and those ideas were submitted to the forum as a whole. Participants then used real-time polling to vote on the three most important ideas from all entries.
Who Attended the Forums?
About 200 East Tennesseans attended the second round of public forums. As part of each meeting, participants were asked to provide some basic demographic information that is helpful when assessing how well the participants represent a cross-section of the region's population.
